SISTERS OF THE SOCIETY
OF THE SACRED HEART
“The Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus” was born in post-revolutionary France, when Madeleine Sophie Barat (who was canonised in 1925) and her four companions made their first vows in 1800, committing themselves as religious to a life which combined both the contemplative and the apostolic.
“Discovering and communicating the love of the Heart of Jesus” remains our mission to this day.
The Society motto is “Cor unum et anima una in Corde Jesu” i.e. “One heart and one soul in the Heart of Jesus”, with the logo of “the Open Heart of Jesus encircling the world”:
Today over two thousand Religious of the Sacred Heart (Religieuses du Sacré Coeur, “RSCJ”) serve in 41 countries in every continent.
In India we have communities in the States of Maharashtra, UP and Jharkhand. Our ministries cover formal and informal education in both rural and urban areas, pastoral involvement as in the animation of Small Christian Communities (SCCs), counselling, spiritual guidance, retreats.
We feel blessed to have been sent to help initiate and nurture the SCCs at St. Anthony’s parish, Malwani, since 1992.
Presently, our community of three sisters (Albina, Daphne, and Manisha) lives at:
